Donna Rice is an elementary school administrator (part time) with a strong background in environmental education. She received her BEd from the University of Manitoba and Masters of Education (Curriculum and Global Studies) from OISE. Her love of the outdoors was inspired growing up next to Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba where there was plenty of time to connect with nature and develop her curiousity about the outdoors. She has had extensive experience working with students from K - Grade 12 as an environmental education teacher at Hillside Outdoor Education school and SOES - Scarborough Outdoor Education School. Her love of the outdoors has led her to Sweden, Wales and Australia where she has collaborated with other environmental educators. She feels very fortunate to have worked as the Director of the Creative Learning Centre - a private school in Monteverde, Costa Rica - with a primary focus on environmental education. She has presented workshops to connect environmental education for teachers and outdoor educators on topics such as Edible Wilds, Birds, Bees and Bumblebees, while leading excursions in birdwatching and hiking in the great outdoors. As part of the TDSB ECO schools program and her role as a school administrator, she has used this time to collaborate, lead and inspire staff, students and parents in environmental education to build community while greening our school grounds. She has been a Curriculum Leader with TDSB in Environmental Education, ECO Schools and presently shares her time supporting the Beaches Edible Garden. With four daughters about to embark on the world, she feels fortunate to participate in her community and share her love of the outdoors.
